Alisha Porter

I grew up in Canberra and was accepted as a contemporary dancer to WAAPA in 2006. An injury to my pelvis and hip socket introduced me to physiotherapy-based Pilates to support my continued full-time dance training, until surgery was needed in 2009. After spending time travelling and relocating to Sydney, I sought out Sally Anderson after a recommendation from a childhood dance teacher, as a way to recondition my body and postpone the need for further surgery. I developed a consistent practice, my pain levels reduced, and I was hooked.

A vision and goal-setting conversation as part of my employment with Lululemon Athletica inspired me to dream big and enrol in the Diploma of Professional Pilates Instruction with Pilates International Training Centre (Pilates ITC) in 2015. Upon graduation, I was accepted as a Permanent Instructor and I have been teaching full-time ever since.

In September 2019, the leap of faith was made to open my own Pilates Studio, Sense of Power Pilates, in the CBD fringe suburb of Pyrmont, Sydney. We have been excitedly embraced by the Pyrmont community with many of our clients living within walking distance to our studio. Not long after opening Pilates ITC invited us to be their NSW Instructor Training Studio and Work Placement Studio to support the next generation of Pilates Instructors completing their Diploma studies.

WHAT GETS ALISHA EXCITED AND PASSIONATE ABOUT PILATES?

I currently work with a wide variety of clients including those who are Pre & Post Natal, Professional Artists and Athletes, clients with Scoliosis, MS and Parkinson’s disease, as well as those that are generally fit and healthy. My long-term vision is to be part of an Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation team using Pilates to extend the careers of professional artists and athletes.

When not in the Pilates Studio, you can find my husband and I indulging our creative side by attending theatre performances, getting out of the city on the motorbike, and pulling silly faces with our 11 nieces and nephews.
