Client Story: Almudena and Abel

A Shared Pilates Journey: How Almudena and Abel found strength, balance, and belonging in Pyrmont

When Almudena and Abel first stepped into Sense of Power Pilates in Pyrmont in July 2023, they were looking for more than just exercise. Like many busy professionals, they were spending long hours at a desk and juggling work, family, and life demands. Abel was managing mild but persistent lower back pain, while Almudena was in the first trimester of her third pregnancy and wanted a safe, supportive way to keep moving.
What they didn’t expect was that Pilates would become a grounding ritual — one that supported not only their physical health, but also their confidence, connection, and overall wellbeing.

Over two years of consistent Semi-Private sessions, Almudena and Abel discovered a practice that met them exactly where they were, and evolved alongside them through different seasons of life.

Before Pilates: Searching for Ease and Support

Abel’s primary concern was lower back discomfort that had gradually built up from long hours at the computer. He wanted to move with more ease and feel stronger in his body without aggravating existing issues.

For Almudena, the timing was delicate. Entering early pregnancy, she was conscious of the need for appropriate guidance — movement that felt safe, informed, and adaptable to the changes happening in her body. Like many parents of young children, both were also navigating the mental load that comes with busy family life and limited time for self-care.

They shared a common question: Would Pilates truly support their bodies in a way that felt sustainable, personalised, and worthwhile?

The Journey: Finding Strength, Awareness, and Flow

From their very first session at Sense of Power Pilates, Almudena and Abel experienced a level of attention and care that stood out.

“The personalised attention from Alisha and her instructors — Dracaena, Kim, Barbara and Tamara — has been incredible. Their professionalism, empathy, and deep knowledge make every class feel tailored to our needs. We feel genuinely cared for, and that has made a huge difference in both our progress and our overall wellbeing. They have made us Pilates addicts!”

Their sessions were thoughtfully adapted to meet their individual needs — supporting Almudena through pregnancy with stability, breath awareness, and confidence in movement, while helping Abel build strength and control to better support his spine and posture.

As the weeks progressed, Pilates became more than a physical practice. It was also an education.

“The studio’s commitment to education and technique has elevated our understanding of Pilates far beyond what we expected. We now approach each movement with intention and awareness, thanks to the Instructors’ passion and detailed guidance. It’s inspiring to be in an environment where learning is celebrated.”

Through this process, they developed a deeper connection to how their bodies move — not just in the studio, but in everyday life.

The Transformation: More Than Physical Results

By the time Almudena and Abel relocated back to Spain in August 2025, Pilates had become a cornerstone of their wellbeing.

“Joining your studio has been one of the best investments we’ve made for our health and wellbeing. The physical results are evident, but even more valuable is the confidence we’ve gained. We always leave feeling stronger, more aligned, and deeply satisfied.”

Each session offered something rare in modern life: a pause.

“We always walk in with anticipation and walk out feeling renewed. It’s like pressing a reset button every time. This is especially important for us given the long hours we spend in front of the computer and the demands of raising three children.”

Pilates became a moment of restoration — helping them recharge physically and mentally so they could show up more fully for work, for their family, and for themselves.

Belonging and Community

Arriving from overseas, Almudena and Abel initially wondered whether they would feel at home in a new studio and community. Any uncertainty disappeared quickly.

“We were a little nervous about fitting in, especially being from overseas, but that melted away after our first Semi-Private session. The community here is welcoming, uplifting, and genuinely kind. It’s more than a studio — it’s a space where everyone is encouraged to grow together.”

Across Private, Semi-Private, and Duet sessions, they consistently experienced a culture of inclusivity and encouragement — one reflected not only by the instructors, but by the members themselves.

Instructor Reflection

Working with Almudena and Abel over such a meaningful chapter of their lives was a privilege. Their commitment to their practice, openness to learning, and shared sense of humour brought warmth to every session. Their journey reflects what Sense of Power Pilates is about — personalised care, thoughtful progression, and supporting people to feel confident and capable in their bodies, no matter what stage of life they’re in.

Whether you’re managing persistent aches, navigating pregnancy, or simply seeking a stronger and more connected way to move, your Pilates journey can begin in exactly the same way.
